Shining Stars Bahá'is School

The Shining Stars Bahai School grew out of the need for Orange County to provide our communities an environment in which the children could learn about the principles and teachings of the Bahai Faith.
It began ten years ago in a small rented space in Irvine. Soon the school began to grow and a preschool facility was rented in South Orange County. As the number of enrollees reached near 80, even more space was needed.
When the San Clemente Bahai Center became a reality the possibility for the school to have sessions in a permanent spot opened up. Since its inception the Bahai School has served ages preschool through youth and adult.
About three years ago a contest for naming the school was held, and the inspirational Shining Stars name was the winning entry which was submitted by one of our students. The student drew her inspiration from the Bahai teachings, which bid the children to be shining standards of character.
The schools curriculum teaches about history and the central figures of the Bahai Faith and other world religions. The program is broad enough for anyone who would choose to attend. Its sense of family and community development is encouraged by promoting parent/child participation in the school and its activities. The adult classes, which are held concurrently with the children's classes, are conducted in an open forum manner. The class facilitator selects the topics of discussion based on the participant's interests.
Classes are held on Sunday mornings from 10:30 to 12:30 noon during much of the academic year. The School schedule allows for holidays and family days for which special programs are planned.
